Closet Confessions is a podcast that you don’t want to miss!

If you’re looking for a new podcast to add to your rotation this spring, then Closet Confessions isn’t one to miss! “The premise of this podcast is that myself and Sarel meet in my closet, to get some things off our chest!”, says Candice in the opening of the recent episode ‘Am I lying or just manifesting?’

Hosted by author and journalist Candice Brathwaite and online personality Sarel, where the charismatic duo are unapologetically and authentically themselves, unashamedly honest, hilarious and speak about pretty much everything and anything which makes it a well-rounded podcast that is enjoyable to their online community.

Closet Confessions was renewed for a second season at the beginning of April, and it came back better than ever for eager listeners who missed these ladies together. The lively pair discuss all things pop culture, dating tips, lifestyle advice, sharing their relatable life experiences and provide reactions to their listeners' anonymous confessions no matter how wild they are! Whilst providing countless of contagious laughter, general girl chit chat, unfiltered discussions and lifestyle advice, this podcast should go unmissed.

Every week they give us a bonus episode dedicated to listeners named “Your Confessions…”, where the two hosts answer their listeners' dilemmas or shady confessions sent in anonymously by their growing audience from around the world. These dilemmas or shady confessions vary from “His mum’s food tastes like wet foot” and “I let his mother know he cheated then left” to “Baby daddy regret”. The “Your Confessions…” segment revived the agony aunt format just like The Receipts Podcast did, that we’ve seen in magazines and newspapers except with more outlandish titles and shady confessions!

This interactive podcast adds a fresh dynamic of unadulterated conversations that people are afraid to talk about, Candice and Sarel are open to talking about anything and everything with unfiltered discussions that give space for relatability to their online community as well as creating new dialogues that people were unaware of. Closet Confessions gave a platform for their audience to express themselves in a supportive yet easy-going setting that somewhat mirrors asking your older sister or best friends for advice.

The unbridled honesty from the hosts in Closet Confessions is what makes the podcast so refreshing, whilst being unafraid to unpack nuanced and uncomfortable conversations with each other and to their audience. Candice and Sarel advise their listeners from a place of tough love, words of encouragement and the importance of self-love, their experiences reaffirm what the Black British community, especially Black British women, have endured whether it’s in school, in dating, friendships, beauty standards or in the workplace.

Season two of Closet Confessions is full of contagious laughter, outlandish and hilarious confessions, reaffirming advice filled with tough love, and relatable stories. If you were unacquainted with Candice and Sarel before, I hope now you’ll tune in to their weekly podcasts - I’m excited to see what’s in store for Closet Confessions in the future!
