ThisChord 006: The Jazmine Sullivan Edition. Let’s dive in, shall we?

This edition couldn’t have been more perfectly timed, taking place just days before Ms. Sullivan’s headline show at DLT: The Recipe - which if you attended, you’re one of the chosen ones. Unlimited food and drinks? Count me in! Not to mention this was Ms Sullivan’s first time in the UK in years! ThisChord 006 offered a unique opportunity for seasoned R&B and Sullivan fans to connect and celebrate good music, whilst also serving as the perfect opportunity for new or casual listeners to discover and appreciate her artistry.

It’s important to be educated when sharing an opinion. It’s important to know who the artist is, respect where they’ve come from and where they are now. Once we had a beverage in hand, courtesy of Mickzology Cocktails, we settled into the evening as Daniel shared some of the standout moments of Ms. Sullivan’s career to date. One of the interesting facts was that Jazmine has writing credits for Christina Milian’s hit record, ‘Say I’. A song that will instantly take you back to the Y2K era.

One of the things that makes ThisChord so special is how Daniel seamlessly transitions from host to live-act—because let’s be real, he can sanggg! If you haven’t already, check out Daniel’s music over at DVTN with his younger sister, Peace , or follow him on social media to tune into the ‘Bonnet Diaries’ ft the new piano.

A standout moment of the evening was when Daniel led the entire room in a heartfelt, unified rendition of Jazmine Sullivan’s ‘Lions Tigers and Bears’. It was really giving church choir vibes, and the experience was nothing short of wholesome. “I’m not scared, of lions and tigers and bears, but I’m scared of loving youuu” LYRICS!

ThisChord is the ultimate place to experience and appreciate an artist’s body of work. So don’t feel like you have to be a super-fan to attend. It’s all for the love of music that the community has joined together every month for 8 months (soon to be 9), no matter who the artist focus is.
