1) BLACK EATS LDN

BLACKEATSLDN is the UK’s first food market that solely promotes black-owned businesses ranging from restaurants, skincare, clothing, jewellery and so much more!
Opposite Hackney Central station, the bustling market is filled with wonderful businesses and eager customers trying a range of cuisine from Jamaican, Trinidadian, Ghanaian and more! BLACKEATSLDN highlights London’s diversity as well as empowering small black-owned businesses.

2. LAGOS, PECKHAM, REPEAT: PILGRIMAGE TO THE LAKES
WHEN: Until 29th OCTOBER 2023
WHERE: South London Gallery
PRICE: Free
The South London Gallery is currently hosting the Lagos, Peckham, Repeat: Pilgrimage to the Lakes until October 29th 2023. This exhibition highlights the work of 13 Nigerian and British-Nigerian artists. The art symbolises the connection between Lagos and London as Peckham is known as ‘Little Lagos’ due to the lively area being home to the Nigerian community in the UK.
Lagos, Peckham, Repeat: Pilgrimage to the Lakes exhibition is co-curated by Folakunle Oshun, founder and director of the Lagos Biennial, together with the South London Gallery.
3) GRENFELL: IN THE WORDS OF SURVIVORS
WHEN: until 26th AUGUST 2023
WHERE: National Theatre

Playwright Gillian Slovo showcases a verbatim play with the experiences and stories of Grenfell survivors. Staged at the National Theatre until 26th August 2023, this play pays an homage to the Grenfell Tower tragedy that happened in June 2017. Grenfell: In the Words of Survivors beautifully shares the experiences of the bereaved and the wider community.

4) BETWEEN TWO WORLDS: VANLEY BURKE AND FRANCIS WILLIAMS
WHEN: until 31 DECEMBER 2023
WHERE: V&A
PRICE: FREE
This V&A exhibition explores portraits of Jamaican scholars, Vanley Burke and Francis Williams. Burke’s photography, archives with historical artefacts which works beautifully alongside Williams paintings. Williams paintings invoke reflections on pursuits for identities and colonial legacies.

5) YOU ARE AFRICAN FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING
WHEN: 29 - 31 AUG
WHERE: Omnibus Theatre

This semi-autobiographical one-woman play portrays the complex relationship of the African mother-daughter bond. The ambitious and intelligent protagonist, Chile, shares her experience of combining her British upbringing and Nigerian heritage together. Chile’s nonconformity dreams, career choices and feminist ideas collide with her Nigerian mother’s traditional values.
