Our fashion sense makes up a huge percentage of who we are. Summer is nearly over but there is still time to add new clothes to our wardrobes. Here are two of the freshest clothing lines on the scene and you can read all about them and find out more about their clothing below.

We also asked SDK a few questions just so we can learn a bit about them.

  1. What inspired you to start a clothing line?

It’s always been a childhood dream to curate clothing that I would be proud to wear and that which personified myself and my character. I often found printed tees, especially on the high street very boring and basically churned out in order to satisfy seasonal trends. I therefore just wanted to make clothing to include graphics with underlying meanings and messages.

2. What has been your biggest setback so far and how did you overcome it?

I would say the biggest setback is my lack of experience as a creator and business person. We’re also at a point in time where there are a crazy number of clothing brands taking flight and unfortunately a lot of them failing to take off. However, taking a step back and realising that my main goal in garment creation is to spread the message of being brave and empowerment, I feel a sense of separate from the apparent rat race of making your brand the most popular or most fashionable in a short space of time.

3. What has been your biggest challenge of maintaining a clothing line so far and how did you overcome it?

Presently, and generally a constant battle is reaching potential customers due to the sheer amount of media and information being produced. As meaningful as your ethos may be, reaching that individual through all the noise of social media has proven difficult and we are still searching for effective methods to do so.

4. What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Launching Capsule 1. It took a lot of effort to put all the necessary pieces together, especially during our final year of university. It’s very rewarding having individuals and passers by providing feedback through compliments on how they love our graphics and underlying meanings and connotations of each tee.

5. Any new merch out soon or new projects?

We’re excited for what the future holds for us. We’ll be in Ghana this December to release a mini capsule and to do some charity work alongside that. A big part of our ethos is spreading love and empowering communities who feel overlooked and misunderstood. But before that we’ll have Capsule 1.5 out which will be an extension of Capsule 1. Super excited.

6. If you could go back to the the beginning of it all, would you change anything?

Figuring out costs and how to get to the customer firstly. But not much else to be honest.

7. If you could have any celebrity model for you that matches you clothing lines’ energy, who would it be and why?

One person I’d say who matches our energy is Richard Stark. He’s the founder of Chrome Hearts, I wouldn’t say he’s a celebrity but what he stands for very much aligns with what we stand for. Another one being Nathy Peluso, an Argentinian singer who truly empowers and represents being one’s self unapologetically.

8. Do you have any advice to those who want to start their own clothing line?

Firstly stand for something, and reflect yourself in what you are creating. The rest will follow as long as you maintain your passion.

Sesbcape

The meaning of Sesbcape is to be somebody you want to be , do what you have to do to get yourself out there and achieve what you want to achieve.
When I see my brand around a few places or on people, all I think of is our progression and work. The love and support we get is amazing and there is a lot more to come.

We asked Sesbcape a few question just to get a bit of an idea of what goes on behind the scenes of their clothing line.

  1. What inspired you to start your clothing line?

When I was in secondary school, I started my first fashion line called Time 2 Chase My Dream. I literally knew nothing about clothing lines so I made a few bright coloured tops and that was it. Then I left it because I didn’t know what I was doing but as I started to age and when I entered college I started to like and understand fashion more so I decided to make another clothing line that meant something tome and could mean something to everyone else – “I want to be something”. This stuck to me so I came up with Sesbcape and started working and moving.

2. What have been your biggest challenges of maintaining a clothing line so far?

Firstly, trying to find the right manufacturer that will provide the best quality in the quickest time frame.  Secondly, trying to juggle university assignments and working on the business.

3. What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Micheal Dapaah wearing my clothing to perform on stage when he first released his music. That was a shock to me.  Selling out a new piece of hoodie in less than a week.

4. Hopes for the future?

To just keep building my platform. I aim to be seen everywhere.

5. Any new Merch out soon or any new projects?

Yeah, we’ve got a few stuff lined up. In a few weeks we will release something exclusive for the females. God will take control.

6. What are three words that you’d use to describe your clothing line?

Unique, power, meaningful

7. Have you received any criticism and have you taken it on board?

I have received a few and I’ve taken it on board and you will see the difference in products wise and releases.

8. Any words of advice for people thinking of starting their own clothing lines?

Put 100% in at all times. Don’t do what I done and started of with a 100 and then when things were getting good put 50%. Keep pushing at all times.
